Digital Essay Competition Special Needs Launch – Kenya Institute of Special Education

2018 Digital Essay Competition Special Needs Launch was held at The Kenya Institute of Special Education in Kasarani Nairobi County on Thursday 28th June 2018 from 3pm to 5pm. In attendance were competition partners and sponsors, publishers, neighboring schools, parents, teachers, students and invited guests.

The guests who attended the launch included Sheila Lutta from Ministry Of Education, Rolando Villamero from UNICEF Kenya, Caroline Mbugua from Australian High Commission, James Kaitany from World Vision, Pauline Moutaux from French Embassy, Lucy Kithome from USAID, Priscillah Wahome from Longhorn Publishers, Lydia Kyalo from Kenya Institute for the Blind, Mr. Wambua Kenya Institute of Special Education Director (KISE), Christopher Lenguris Dean of Students (KISE), Douglas Okeyo a Sign Enterpreter, Christopher Kilia from Deaf Ability Initiative, Victor Okoth from Deaf Ability Initiative, Ann Njogu from Tusome RTI among other guests 

Schools in attendance were Kenya Institute of Special Education, Kambui School for the Deaf, Treeside Special School, Mirema Primary School (Special Needs Unit) and Kasarani Primary School (Special Needs Unit) 

Teachers were exited and looking forward to help and support their students and school to participate in the 2018 Digital Essay Competition. It was a honor to be hosted by Mr. Wambua Kenya Institute of Special Education Director and the Dean of Students Mr. Christopher Lenguris

DEC submission categories for 2018 are English, Kiswahili, French and Art

The 2018 DEC timeline is as follows   

  • Wednesday 6th June – DEC Primary School Launch at Olympic Primary School in Kibera, Nairobi
  • Friday 8th June – DEC Secondary School Launch at Loreto Kiambu Girls’ High School, Kiambu
  • Thursday 28th June – DEC Special Needs Launch at Kenya Institute of Special Education
  • 25th July – End of DEC Entry Submissions
  • 26th September – DEC Prize Giving at Nairobi International Book Fair, Sarit Centre Nairobi

2018 essay submissions are being done at essay.eKitabu.com and by email to essaycontest@ekitabu.com, with a deadline of 25th July 2018.
