Enter to Win 2019 Digital Essay Competition

The 2019 Digital Essay Competition (DEC) has kicked off and students can now participate in writing essays and submitting them to essay.eKitabu.com or essaycontest@ekitabu.com by email. The Competition is open to all students from Grade Five to Form Four both in Mainstream and Special Needs unit. The competition is free and inclusive for all students. The theme for this year DEC question is:

Think of a problem in your school: how can technology help to solve this problem?

Or

Tafakari kuhusu tatizo katika shule yako: ni vipi teknolojia inaweza kutatua tatizo hili?

Or

Réfléchissez à un problème dans votre école: comment les nouvelles technologies peuvent-elles le résoudre?

Launched in 2013, DEC is approved by Kenya’s Ministry of Education (MOE). The Competition encourages teachers and students to use ICT in teaching and learning and It recognizes and rewards students and the teachers who support them for sharing their ideas and original voices in written essays. DEC Prizes include Scholarship money, Computing devices, Gift Hamper, and National recognition with MOE.

DEC partners include the Ministry of Education, Education Development Trust (EDT), The Embassy of France in Kenya, Kenya Publishers Association (KPA), Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA), Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA), Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA), Longhorn Publishers, Moran Publishers, and Oxford University Press East Africa.

Important competition dates

  • April – Opening of Entry Submission
  • May – Official Launches
  • 25th July – Closing of Entry Submission
  • 26th September – Prize Giving

Over the past 6 years, DEC has engaged over 30,000 students and their teachers across all 47 counties of Kenya. We are working to make 2019 DEC more inclusive on every level for great results this year.
