eKitabu attended the 2019 mEducation Alliance Symposium addressing how enhancing digital literacy acquisition, instruction, and extension leads to improved national and community development outcomes through Studio KSL is an eKitabu innovation that develops accessible Early Grade reading materials in Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) to Support communication skills as a pathway to literacy for Deaf children

As the mEducation Alliance embraces a broad definition of information and communications technology (ICT) including, but not limited to, mobile phones, computers, e-Readers, tablets, flash memory, micro projectors, and audio/video devices, we welcome proposals that feature digital literacy interventions across a variety of media and applications.

The 9th annual Symposium was an exciting opportunity to connect with policymakers and practitioners from government, leading donor organizations, the private sector, NGOs, ICT4E researchers, and other innovators engaged in the field. As in past Symposia, this year’s event included interactive sessions and formats, including dynamic panel presentations, gallery walks, and intentional networking opportunities.

The mEducation Alliance Symposium is hosted annually by the mEducation Alliance’s Steering Committee. The Alliance was founded in 2010 and is an international collaborative effort between bilateral and multilateral donors, NGOs, foundations, private sector partners, and academic researchers.  Our collective agenda is to: highlight and catalyze promising information and communications technology for education (ICT4E) practices and initiatives, particularly in low-resource and developing country context; to reduce duplicative efforts; to promote collective knowledge-sharing, and to identify and support efforts to evaluate and scale promising ICT4E interventions.
